Automated BVM From Motorhome-World
This is what our prototype Automated BVM looks like sofar. Ready for field testing.
Dennis Bouwers from Motorhome World in Cape Town, South Africa, has created a mobile and cheap to manufacture BVM ventilation device.
“We’ve been operating for 20 years building specifically motorhomes. Due to the current situation, we’ve decided to repurpose some of our machines and expertise to come up with a device to help the medical personnel”.
The automated Bag Valve Mask (BVM) device is in a prototype stage and Bouwers is consulting with experts to create the final design that may be used in hospitals around the country as South Africa deals with the Coronavirus.
“We foresee the primary application for this device on the frontlines, in the tents in the field hospitals, before the patients get to ICU. Or if there’s a big shortage of ICU beds. We foresee that this device could be used on patients to assist them until a proper ventilator can become available”, says Bouwers.
